Qualifications

2013: Doctor in Natural Science, Friedrich-Schiller University Jena, Jena, Germany

Teaching interests

Drug development and medicinal chemistry

Research interests

Our research focuses on evaluating the biological activities and underlying pharmacological mechanisms of natural compounds derived from terrestrial plants and marine organisms. The core expertise involves investigating the mechanisms of cytotoxic (anti-cancer), anti-inflammatory, and anti-osteoclastogenic (anti-osteoporosis) activities. By applying these specialized biological and cellular assays, this work complements chemical isolation efforts and serves as a crucial bridge connecting natural product chemistry with modern drug development.

Research interests

My expertise lies in developing pipelines for comprehensive metabolomics analysis and its applications in the life sciences. The pipeline covers small-molecule extraction, derivatization, and chromatographic separation (liquid and gas chromatography), along with detection methods based on mass spectrometry. It also integrates computational tools for processing complex metabolomics data and building correlation networks, multivariate analysis, and molecular networking to investigate metabolic processes at multiple biological levels—from cells, tissues, and whole organisms to plant, microbiota and clinical samples. These efforts aim to elucidate biosynthetic pathways of bioactive natural products and identify biomarkers that support drug discovery and early diagnostics.

Research interests

My research focuses on the diversification and optimization of processing, finishing, and preservation technologies for high-value food products derived from natural raw materials, as well as the development of novel food products and craft beverages-including fermented drinks and functional foods from natural ingredients. I am also engaged in the exploration and characterization of bioactive compounds of natural origin-including antibacterial and antioxidant agents, as well as modulators of multidrug resistance mechanisms in bacteria-and their potential applications in food and health sciences. In parallel, I investigate antibiotic resistance in bacteria isolated from food and environmental samples, contributing to antimicrobial resistance (AMR) surveillance within the One Health framework. Additionally, I apply metagenomics and metabolomics approaches to study plan microorganism interactions, with a view to understanding how microbial communities influence food quality, safety, and functionality.

Research interests

Over the last 5 years, I have been interested in researching the potential bioactivities of natural products and traditional plants. In detail, I have focused on studying the antioxidant, anti-diabetic, anti-aggregating, and anticoagulant activities of plant extracts and their secondary metabolites. I have also worked on several analytical methods such as LC-MS, GC-MS and UV-Vis spectroscopy.

Research interests

My research mainly focuses on the human genetic variations involved in inherited diseases. The overall objective is to identify genes, gene networks and their variations involved in the outcome of human diseases. The technique combines a positional cloning approach in humans, and functional analysis in genetic polymorphisms.

Research interests

Research on the mechanisms by which plants respond to biotic and abiotic stresses, and seeks solutions to help plants better cope with stresses. The response of plants to stresses has been investigated at different levels, from morphological, biocemical and molecular levels to have a systemic understanding about it.
