Description: My research interests are concerned with electrochemical biosensing microsystems for addressing rising problems in food safety, environment monitoring, in-situ diagnosis, and precise agriculture. The electrochemical sensors and microfluidic elements (for handling liquid flow at micro-scale) are integrated together on the same platform in order to ensure automatic handling as well as continuous analysis of targeted molecules. The configuration of the system was built up to fit the targeted applications. Different biomolecules (enzyme, antigens, antibodies, DNA…) can be attached on the surface of the electrode for specific recognition of targeted molecules. Various nanomaterials (gold nanoparticles, carbon nanotube, graphene and its derivatives…) and conducting polymers (PANi, PEDOT) were incorporated onto the electrode for improving conductivity of the electrode surface, enhancing charge transfer at the electrode and lowering working potential; thus improving biosensing performances of the system. Several passive elements (channels, mixers…) and active ones (heaters, magnets) were integrated on the microfluidic platform for handling the liquid flow as desired. Such bioanalytical microsystems are very promising for monitoring toxins in foods, water sources; determining biochemical indexes, viruses, infectious pathogens; and monitoring parameters of air, water, soil … in precise agriculture.

Research interests

My research focuses primarily on thin-film semiconductor materials, especially molecular semiconductors, and their applications in memory, transistors, and electrochemical devices. Key themes include developing novel physical molecular devices and thin-film or low dimensional materials, understanding the physics of charge transport and structure–property relationships in molecular semiconductor films, and exploring new functional electronics. In addition, we are also working on sustainable materials such as cellulose for ionic mixed devices and sustainable development.
